Five Unhealthy Ways You May Be Coping Through Quarantine
We are living in such uncertain times. It seems as if the rules for our country change almost every week. No matter what is going on outside of your door, there are a few ways you can make the most of your time. Here are five alternatives to harmful routines.
Wake up + grabbing the phone
Rolling over and checking social media is a toxic habit for many reasons. One, you do not want to prematurely expose your eyes to blue light before you are truly awake. Over time, waking up and viewing a screen can lead to eye problems and midday fatigue. The dilemma with trying to connect with the outside world so early in the day is, it can lead to a feeling of loneliness. Instead of reaching for the phone first thing, try brewing a cup of coffee or tea and writing down whatever you feel. Affirmations are a positive way to start the day. Journal about what you are grateful for and try to keep your morning screen-free as long as possible.
Spending money on things you do not need
Recently it feels like the only fresh air we get is when we open our doors to receive an Amazon package. You do not need us to tell you the benefits of saving money during quartine! Small immediate gratification through boxes only boosts your mood momentarily. Try to put any amount of savings for a larger, more valuable plan. Like new furniture, a new vehicle, or a dream vacation!
Skipping breakfast
The most important meal of the day should be cherished. Breakfast not only boosts your metabolism, but it also fuels your body for the tasks at hand. People who skip breakfast are often not hungry in the morning hours, or it feels like they are gaining a sense of control. Instead, try to make breakfast a daily routine. Even if it is as small as yogurt and fresh fruit, push yourself to eat a morning meal.
Binge-watching
It is so mindlessly easy to veg out on Netflix; you almost don't notice the drool until it falls on your sweatshirt. Binging is easy; it requires no effort on your part. It seems relaxing, but it is a form of procrastination. Energize your evening by taking a walk or staying active for at least thirty minutes. Then, live your best luxury life by indulging in selfcare and making a simple meal.
Unnecessary snacking
Snacking, the hardest one of all to avoid! Snacking has the ability to become very task-oriented. You finish the laundry; you need a snack. You organize a room in the house, and you are ready to treat yo self. Senseless snacking slows you down and obviously hinders you from enjoying a full meal. Anytime you begin to feel hungry, try a full glass of lemon water. Not only will you be flushing out unwanted toxins, but this will also determine if you are truly hungry. If thirty minutes have elapsed, and you still feel hungry, enjoy a small snack.
