Ten Reasons Why Harry & Meghan's Wedding Is Still The Event Of The Century
Two years later and they are still giving us third-party onlookers butterfliers. Dripping with class, elegance, and a freshly found independence, Harry, Meghan, (and now baby Archie) will forever have a place in our hearts. Let us take a trip down memory lane to the day this couple said, "I do," and the entire globe swooned in unison. Here are ten reasons why we never get tired of May 19, 2018.
St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle
With Harry + Meghan being such a private couple in general, it was no surprise they chose such an intimate venue for their vows. St. George's Chapel seats a total of 800 while William and Kate's wedding consisted of 1,900 guests! St. George's Chapel dates back to the 1300s, and it was the perfect local venue for these two to tie the knot.
Clare Waight Keller and the Givenchy Gown
The underlined theme of the Royal wedding was Highlight the Underdog. We are no stranger to the Markle Sparkle, and neither is Meghan's wedding dress designer, Clare Waight Keller. Clare is a British designer who rapidly became the first female artistic director after she partnered up with Meghan to create her one of a kind Givenchy dress. Meghan's wedding dress was an exquisite floor-length gown featuring a bateau neckline and a triple organza underskirt.
Bishop Michael Curry
With nearly two billion people tuning in around the globe, Harry and Meghan perfectly orchestrated the presence of minister Michael Curry. An intentional thirteen-minute sermon was heard 'round the world. Curry interjected truth about American slavery and quoted the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. blowing traditional Royal wedding sermonettes out of the water with a culturally appropriate new definition of love.
Oprah Winfrey
The queen of America was in attendance along with several other American H & M celebrity friends. Mother Oprah did not disappoint in her larger than life nude and blush pink hat and ensemble. She represented the United States well, and anonymous sources said, "She hit the dance floor harder than anyone else at the reception."
The Kingdom Choir
One of the highlights of the ceremony was The Kingdom Choir's rendition of the 1960's classic Ben E. King's song, Stand By Me. The choir- led by Karen Gibson hand-picked by Meghan herself, portrays numerous ethnicities and skin tones. Stand By Me was adopted as an anthem for the black civil rights movement. It was a clear celebration of diversity coming together to sing as one.
Minimalistic Spring Florals
Traditional brides tend to add a pop of color in the form of wedding bouquets. As we know by now, Meghan is not the traditional bride. She kept an effortless floral aesthetic with a team of florists incorporating white foxgloves, peonies, and roses spread throughout the venue. Here's an extremely heartwarming fact: After the ceremony, the flowers were turned into large bouquets and given to local charities and hospice centers. #TalkAboutATearJerker
Storm + Tyrone
Meet Storm and Tyrone. This father and son duo were two out of six hand-picked horses to guide the newlyweds in an Ascot Landau carriage through the town. These Windsor Grey horses are known for their calm temperament. They are well trained, and do not get distracted by the loud noises- like our screams of excitement all the way from Texas.
Lemon + Elderflower Wedding Cake
Spring sprang with an untraditional floral/fruity wedding cake combination. This gorgeous six-tier dessert by baker Claire Ptak consisted of 200 organic Amalfi lemons and ten bottles of Sandringham elderflower cordial. The appearance is untraditional as well. This buttercream and rose-covered beauty consisted of six separated tiers instead of the traditional stacked. Add this swoon-worthy concept to your wedding Pinterest boards, ladies!
Diana's View
One of the most iconic photographs of the entire day was the image Yui Mok captured through the edge of a metal grill on the roof of The George IV Gateway Of Windsor Castle. Mok explained he waited on the roof from 8:00 am until 1:30 pm when the carriage procession began. Yui explained to townandcountrymag.com "As they kept coming toward me, I had a mere minute or so left of shooting opportunity before they would disappear out of my sight... I figured that a shot of them from an overhead view would be something unique from the other photographer's angles, something a little bit artistic even."
"Amen, This Little Light Of Mine"
The seal of approval over the entire union must be credited to a mixture of celebration roars from the crowd and The Kingdom Choir. As Harry and his brand new bride descend the chapel's steps to start a new journey, The Kingdon Choir takes us to church with an old Sunday School classic. Amen, and This Little Light Of Mine evoked chills and a silly grin.
Meghan's off-beat-bride style is nothing short of magnificent. She perfectly blended traditional elements and put her spin on things. The wedding was utterly worth waking up at 5:00 am on that day.
