Self Help Tips Every Girl Should Know

Self Help Tips Every Girl Should Know

I am all about working smarter not harder. Especially when it comes to a routine, if there are tips or tricks to make for a better life, I want to know about it! Here are a few habits that I have accumulated over the years to make things a little easier for me.

Never skip your nightly routine

No matter how tired you are, you cannot skip your skincare routine! Whether it’s three steps or twenty steps like mine; you will never regret thoroughly cleansing your face + neck. (Um, or your whole body for that matter. Please bathe regularly) After a full day of being out and about you want your clean face to touch your clean pillowcase every single night.

Make lotion your BFF

There are so many creams, lotions, and potions out there; you have no excuse. As soon as you get out of the shower, slather yourself with your favorite brand. Your skin heals while you are asleep, so you want to make sure you go to bed with hydrated skin, you will wake up feeling like a ten. It’s the only way.

Slippers in the car

I wear heels about 70% of the time, so for that other 30%, I need to be as comfortable as possible. I keep slippers in my car + I wear them whilst driving. I put my heels on at the last possible second, and I rip them off the first chance I get.

- Heel Hack: if you know you’re going to be wearing heels for a while without taking them off, like for a wedding, tape your third and fourth toe together it will give you more structure and allow you to wear your heels for long periods without aching.

Care package in your car

Life is straight up unpredictable, and you never know what the day could throw at you, so the least you could do is be prepared while you’re on the road. I keep a care package in my car.

• toothbrushes

• toothpaste

• deodorant

• tissue

• lotion

• chapstick/ lipgloss

• safety pins

• bobby pins

• napkins

• water bottles

Since I am extra, I have an emergency outfit in my trunk as well — undergarments, a simple black dress, black flats, and black heels. Like I said before unexpected things may happen, so you always want to be prepared, especially if you have to stay somewhere overnight.

Wash your linen on the regular

I pray every person in the entire world is already doing this, but I know some people forget. So here is your reminder. Sweat + dead skin cells accumulate over time in your bed, and if you’re sharing your bed with someone, you could literally be laying in a pile of their dead skin. Gag! I wash my linen, comforter, sheets, and pillowcases twice a month, every other Thursday - my designated TLC night.

Invest in dry cleaning

The majority of my closest has elegant pieces. I also believe in the power of perfume. So every month I take the garments I have worn to the cleaners for proper care. This ensures the colors stay vibrant and the material stays intact for a more extended amount of time.

Plan Ahead

I think it is straight up disrespectful to arrive anywhere late. You are on time if you are fifteen minutes early, you are late if you are on time. A military dad and a flight attendant mom will really set your priorities about time straight. Accidents happen, and traffic occurs, so give yourself plenty of time to be where you are supposed to be. Especially if you are the boss babe calling the shots. Plan your meetings at 9:00 am and be there at 8:45- with donuts.

Be direct + clear

This one should be pretty self-explanatory. If you want something, be direct with your approach, if you do not want something, speak up. Being direct cuts out a ton of miscommunication, and no one has to wonder what you mean. Well, I’m shy. Even if you are shy you can still make sure your needs are met effectively. You do not have to be rude, just clear.

Diffuse Oils

•Peppermint -nausea + headaches

•Tea Tree -anti-inflammatory + sickness

•Dragon Time: a blend of Fennel, Clary Sage, Marjoram, Lavender, Blue Yarrow, and Jasmine essential oils -for that special week.

If you are home chillin’ + you need a little extra boost of anything; I recommend purchasing a small set of basic essential oils and diffusing throughout the day. You do not have to get crazy fancy or intricate; just take a beat, address your need, and diffuse your cares away.

Digest the Day

What in the world? What does that mean? Ok, the day is done, and you finally climb into bed with every intention of falling asleep in 2.8 seconds really just think about your day dwell on the bad first. What did not go your way, what should you change for next time? Let the decisions you made marinade for a little bit so that it will help you become a better person for next time. Then dwell on the good. What was your favorite part of the day? Was there anything that made you laugh until you cried? Even if it was just a smile from a hottie that lifted your spirit, dwell on that as you fall asleep. There is nothing you can change about the day, change yourself for a better tomorrow.
