Microdermabrasion & Microneedling

Microdermabrasion & Microneedling

I am 100% on board with anything related to skin care. New products and facial procedures always have my attention. So when I had the opportunity to have both the microdermabrasion and microneedling procedures done, of course, I seized the chance!

Microdermabrasion: the process of using tiny crystals to exfoliate the skin and then drawing out debris and impurities with suction. It uses no chemicals and is not invasive. The procedure removes the dead and dry outer layer of the skin’s surface to reveal fresh, healthy skin underneath. It rejuvenates the surface, resulting in a brighter complexion. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma, and other skin-related concerns and conditions. Microdermabrasion treatments involve an electric straw-like instrument, a derma pen, and it’s virtually painless.

Microneedling: a procedure designed specifically to invoke the healing response in your skin by causing microtrauma in a targeted way. A microneedle tool resembles a small electric pen, like the derma pen mentioned before. The tip of the pen has thirty-six tiny needles that quickly puncture the skin like a sewing machine. The micro cuts placed on the face send indicators to the brain. The brain gets the message that your face is hurt and new, fresh skin cells are required. As a result, your face falls off. Just kidding, new baby like skin cells are sent to the outer layer of your epidermis giving you a more youthful look! Microneedling has many immediate and long-term benefits.

  • Improves the quality of skin texture

  • Reduces scarring

  • Reduces the appearance of blackheads

  • Treats regular and cystic acne

  • Exfoliates the skin

  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines + wrinkles

  • Reduces hyperpigmentation and even out the skin tone

The Process:

So the microdermabrasion process is quick + straightforward. After the face has been washed, the esthetician makes smooth stokes across each area of the surface. This is the exfoliation process; dead skin cells are sucked up into the derma pen and placed on a small pad filter located inside.

The microneedling process is similar, but a bit more complicated. There are different intensity settings on a microneedle derma pen. The esthetician let me preview each parameter and I chose a speed I was comfortable with. Hyaluronic peptide serum was applied to my face. This serum reinforces the moisture barrier of the skin, keeping the surface plump and protected. Hyaluronic serum boosts the skin's natural collagen production, increases skin elasticity, reduces wrinkles, and soothes irritated or sensitive skin. So when the (painless) needles were puncturing my skin, the serum was absorbed into the top layer. This entire process took about fifteen minutes including a second round of microneedling on the scarred areas of my face.

Would I recommend:

If you have been encountering some problems with your skin and you are looking for a great recharge, I highly recommend it. Immediately after this procedure my skin felt amazing! I was professionally exfoliated, and my face instantly looked more supple. Even the next day, I woke up, looked in the mirror and did a double-take. Who even is this woman, Meghan Markle? Is that you? Microdermabrasion can be done once a week, and microneedling treatments can be done once a month for four consecutive months, then the skin cannot be punctured again for twelve months after that. Both of these treatments are simple, yet extremely effective with longterm results. If you have the opportunity to do either (or both) of these treatments, do not hesitate!
