 Chemical Peel vs Facial Scrub

Chemical Peel vs Facial Scrub

My number one go-to facial scrub is from Lush. It is a beach in a black pot. I've mentioned this fantastic scrub before in my Lush Must Haves: Bod Edition. If you have not explored this fun list, I will share the link to a few of my favorite Lush products. This scrub has fresh ingredients like coarse sea salt for exfoliation, lime juice for brightening, and avocado butter for softening. All of these components form the perfect scrub.

Before I was educated on the proper way to exfoliate my face, I would scrub to the point of creating micro nicks or tiny cuts. I mean I went in. I did not stop until I felt like the top layer of my skin was scraped off. Now I know Ocean Salt and other exfoliants like it, are used to gently slough off dirt and dead skin from the face. So of course, I have changed my ways, and I've lightened up on the "self-care." If you are looking for penetrating long-lasting results with exfoliation, a chemical peel might be more of your jam.

I recently had a pomegranate enzyme chemical facial peel. My life is forever changed. A chemical facial peel is a thin gel-based solution that rests on the face for a specified period. This type of peel chemically passes through the top layer of epidermis and aids with troubled skin from the inside out. The peel I had contains pomegranate which is an is an excellent antioxidant with elevated polyphenol content. Polyphenols are a category of chemicals that naturally occur in plants. So its a little less science lab and a lot more on the natural side of things. This peel also contains a powerful antioxidant and skin brightener. Lactic, arbutin, and salicylic – great for oily and acne prone skin with a boost of brighteners to fade hyperpigmentation and blemishes. This solution was basically created for my exact skin type.

There was no doubt in my mind that I was going to love something designed for me. It was everything I needed and more. Shortly after washing my face, a thin layer of the peel was applied. It smelled like pomegranate bliss. So I just kind of laid there and began to bask in luxury. Six minutes later, the peel was wiped away with a warm washcloth, and the best version of myself was revealed. A visible glow filled the room. My face was red, with no irritation or discomfort just me and my red face. I have never seen the blood in my face move to the surface; I was shocked and amazed. I looked like a blushing Rudolph, and I was speechless at how amazingly soft my face felt immediately after application.

So when we are talking peels vs. scrubs, I do not think I winner should be declared. Everyone should exfoliate at least once a week. If you have oily or acne prone skin, this number could be bumped up to twice a week. Do a little research and find gentle, light scrub, with as many ingredients found in nature as possible. Make a lovely evening out of it and treat yo self. Cleanse first, then exfoliate. Follow that up with a toner or serum, finally moisturize. If you have the extra funds to indulge in a chemical peel with the components that work best for your skin type, don't walk, run to your nearest spa and book an appointment.

It's like this, exfoliating once (or twice) a week is like getting your car washed. You want it to look nice, so you do it on the regular. Receiving a chemical peel treatment is like getting the inside of your car detailed. You do not have to do it as often, but it makes a world of difference when you do.
